Belle Pièce — Unique, Standalone Creation

This piece is a stand alone. Belle Pièce are unique, standalone creations crafted by the most veteran and skillful artisans at Laguiole en Aubrac. Each one is a singular work where tradition meets innovation — a timeless piece of functional art.

Every curve and line is shaped with meticulous attention to detail, producing true gems of craftsmanship. Handle materials are hand-selected for their natural beauty and durability, ensuring each knife is both a working tool and an heirloom destined to be passed down for generations.

A Full Handle, No Bolster

This Belle Pièce breaks from the stainless-bolster construction seen elsewhere in the collection. Here, the wood runs uninterrupted from tip to tail — no separate bolster cap at the pivot, just a thin liner beneath the bee where the blade meets the handle. The result is a cleaner, more continuous line, and it puts more visual weight on the wood itself, since there's no metalwork at either end to share the spotlight.

The Bee

The bee on this piece takes its most classic form yet in this collection: smooth, curved wings framing a ribbed abdomen, with a finely cross-hatched, textured head. Where other Belle Pièce knives lean into faceted Gothic detail or interlacing knotwork, this bee is closer to the traditional silhouette most associated with the Laguiole name — rendered here with the same individual hand-finishing, but in a quieter, more familiar shape. Set directly onto the wood rather than a bolster cap, it reads less like an emblem applied to the knife and more like something that grew out of the handle itself.

A Handle Like No Other

This knife is fitted with a handle of stabilized poplar burl — a wood taken from the root growth of the poplar tree, prized for the density of small, dark burl eyes scattered through its grain. Stabilization lets the burl take dye evenly throughout its porous structure, and here it's been finished in a deep violet-purple, with lighter lavender streaks moving across the surface and darker burl knots showing through like constellations. It's a bolder, more saturated colorway than the other burls in this collection, and the burl's naturally chaotic figure means no two areas of the handle repeat quite the same pattern.

A Line Cut by Hand

The spine carries a bold, angular guilloché — a continuous diamond lattice, hand-cut in a chain-like repeat that reads almost architectural against the wood's organic figure. It's a more graphic, geometric pattern than the vine, arch, or flame motifs found on other pieces in the collection, and its high contrast against the dark violet burl makes it one of the most visually striking spines we've documented so far.
