Belle Pièce — Unique, Standalone Creation

This piece is a stand alone. Belle Pièce are unique, standalone creations crafted by the most veteran and skillful artisans at Laguiole en Aubrac. Each one is a singular work where tradition meets innovation — a timeless piece of functional art.

Every curve and line is shaped with meticulous attention to detail, producing true gems of craftsmanship. Handle materials are hand-selected for their natural beauty and durability, ensuring each knife is both a working tool and an heirloom destined to be passed down for generations.

The Bee

Rather than the faceted, angular treatment seen elsewhere in the collection, this bee takes a floral form: a pointed leaf shape crowns a triangular head, and two wings fan outward in radiating, vein-like lines, closer to flower petals or a spread feather than the smooth closed curves of a classic bee. Set in deep relief against a frosted, black-oxidized background, the raised, hand-polished linework reads less like an emblem and more like a piece of botanical engraving that happens to be bee-shaped.

A Line Cut by Hand

That same technique carries down the spine, where an interlacing lattice of rounded arcs forms a repeating quatrefoil pattern — frosted in the recesses, polished at the high points, so bee and spine read as one continuous piece of hand engraving rather than two separate decorations.

A Handle Like No Other

This piece is fitted with a Mammoth Ivory Crust handle — the tusk's outer, weathered layer, prized for the coloring it picks up from thousands of years of mineral staining underground. Where crust often shows a mottled, marbled surface, this particular piece carries long, flowing striations that could be mistaken for wood grain at a glance. It's not wood; it's ivory that has spent millennia acquiring a pattern wood could never produce, and it gives this handle a warmer, more linear figure than the crust seen elsewhere in the collection.

Every Laguiole en Aubrac knife made with mammoth ivory — this one included — comes with its own certificate confirming the handle is genuine fossilized mammoth ivory, not a synthetic imitation. Laguiole en Aubrac sources this material exclusively through licensed specialty importers, who extract the tusks from permafrost regions such as Siberia and Alaska and carry them through all required international customs and legal channels before they ever reach the workshop.
