Belle Pièce — Unique, Standalone Creation

This piece is a stand alone. Belle Pièce are unique, standalone creations crafted by the most veteran and skillful artisans at Laguiole en Aubrac. Each one is a singular work where tradition meets innovation — a timeless piece of functional art.

Every curve and line is shaped with meticulous attention to detail, producing true gems of craftsmanship. Handle materials are hand-selected for their natural beauty and durability, ensuring each knife is both a working tool and an heirloom destined to be passed down for generations.

The bee — the iconic emblem of Laguiole cutlery — is solid and richly sculpted, with refined motifs running from the head of the knife down to the spring, which is itself delicately engraved.

The Droit Silhouette

What sets the Laguiole Droit apart is its locking mechanism — a lockback, also called a back-lock. Positioned just ahead of the blade, right before the spring, is a small metal stud that cutlers call the "fly." Lifting this fly with a fingertip releases the lock, allowing the blade to swing freely and fold back into the handle.

The name "Droit" — French for straight — comes directly from the knife's profile: the blade and handle run along one continuous line, without the curve found on the Layole. Two distinguishing touches round out the design: a "corbin beak" shape at the base of the handle, and a "Bourbonnaise" blade with a rounded tip where its straight spine and edge taper together to a point.

Handle

This handle is crafted from carbon fiber inlaid with gold — a modern composite where fine gold flakes are suspended within the carbon fiber matrix, creating a striking marbled pattern that shifts and catches the light with every angle. Beyond its striking appearance, carbon fiber is prized for being remarkably lightweight yet highly resistant to wear, moisture, and daily use — a contemporary material paired with Laguiole's centuries-old silhouette.
