Belle Pièce — Unique, Standalone Creation
This piece is a stand alone. Belle Pièce are unique, standalone creations crafted by the most veteran and skillful artisans at Laguiole en Aubrac. Each one is a singular work where tradition meets innovation — a timeless piece of functional art.
Every curve and line is shaped with meticulous attention to detail, producing true gems of craftsmanship. Handle materials are hand-selected for their natural beauty and durability, ensuring each knife is both a working tool and an heirloom destined to be passed down for generations.
The Bee
Where the rest of the collection leans into elaborate detail — facets, fanning wings, hand-hatching — this bee goes the opposite direction entirely. It's reduced to a smooth, mirror-polished form with a single subtle line marking where head meets body, and nothing else: no texture, no engraving, no faceting. Set at the pivot beside the corkscrew's own ironwork, it reads as restraint rather than absence — a quiet counterpoint to a piece that's already doing a lot mechanically.
A Line Cut By Hand
The spine carries a hand-cut fern-leaf vine, each frond curling into the next in a continuous chain, bordered in black along both edges. It's a softer, more organic motif than the bee's plain geometry, giving the spine more visual presence than the pivot — an inversion of how the decoration usually distributes on these knives.
A Handle Like No Other
This piece is fitted with a Mammoth Ivory Crust handle in a pale, ivory-cream tone, carrying soft, subtle tan streaking rather than the bold dark veining or wood-like figuring seen elsewhere in the collection. It's the quietest coloring in the mammoth ivory pieces so far — a natural result of how lightly this particular section of tusk picked up mineral staining over time.
Every Laguiole en Aubrac knife made with mammoth ivory — this one included — comes with its own certificate confirming the handle is genuine fossilized mammoth ivory, not a synthetic imitation. Laguiole en Aubrac sources this material exclusively through licensed specialty importers, who extract the tusks from permafrost regions such as Siberia and Alaska and carry them through all required international customs and legal channels before they ever reach the workshop.
