Belle Pièce — Unique, Standalone Creation

This piece is a stand alone. Belle Pièce are unique, standalone creations crafted by the most veteran and skillful artisans at Laguiole en Aubrac. Each one is a singular work where tradition meets innovation — a timeless piece of functional art.

Every curve and line is shaped with meticulous attention to detail, producing true gems of craftsmanship. Handle materials are hand-selected for their natural beauty and durability, ensuring each knife is both a working tool and an heirloom destined to be passed down for generations.

The Bee

This Belle Pièce carries a faceted Gothic bee, its wings and head cut in the same angular, jewel-like style found on other pieces in this family — hammered, textured panels catching light like cut glass rather than a flat engraved emblem. Set directly at the pivot, it anchors a guilloché pattern that flows down the spine in a continuous leaf-and-vine motif, bordered by a black spacer that gives the silverwork sharp contrast against the handle beneath it.

A Material Beyond Wood

Unlike every other piece in this collection, this Belle Pièce isn't built on wood at all — it's crafted from mammoth ivory crust, the outer layer of a woolly mammoth tusk. "Crust" refers specifically to this outer rind of the tusk, prized for its warm, honey-toned coloring and fine, striated texture built up over tens of thousands of years buried in permafrost, distinct from the smoother, whiter ivory found at the tusk's core.

Every Laguiole en Aubrac knife made with mammoth ivory — this one included — comes with its own certificate confirming the handle is genuine fossilized mammoth ivory, not a synthetic imitation. Laguiole en Aubrac sources this material exclusively through licensed specialty importers, who extract the tusks from permafrost regions such as Siberia and Alaska and carry them through all required international customs and legal channels before they ever reach the workshop.
