Experience the exceptional craftsmanship of the Laguiole en Aubrac Double-Plated Folding Knife, a masterpiece handmade in France by skilled artisans. Celebrated for its refined elegance, structural strength, and meticulous hand-finishing, this luxury pocket knife represents the finest traditions of French cutlery.
The term double-plated refers to the knife’s distinctive construction, where two stainless steel plates reinforce the spring. This design not only enhances durability but also provides an unmistakable aesthetic. Each pair of plates is individually hand-carved by master cutlers, transforming every knife into a unique work of functional art.
The forged bee and spring are crafted from a single piece of stainless steel and finished entirely by hand, a hallmark of authentic Laguiole en Aubrac knives. The decorative hand-carved plates add another level of sophistication, making this knife highly sought after by collectors and discerning enthusiasts alike.
Whether carried as an everyday companion, displayed in a collection, or presented as a meaningful gift, this Laguiole en Aubrac folding knife embodies generations of French craftsmanship and timeless design.
Blackened Poplar Burl: Figure in Shades of Smoke
Poplar burl forms where a tree’s growth turns inward on itself, folding the grain into dense clusters of tiny “eyes,” swirls, and knots. Here, that wild figure has been deepened through a blackening treatment that shifts the wood’s natural pale tones into a palette of smoke: charcoal, slate, and warm taupe, with silvery highlights that move across the surface as the knife turns in the light.
Look closely and the burl tells its own story: darker eye clusters scattered along the scale, soft clouds of lighter grain, and here and there a small amber-russet knot glowing through the gray, a reminder that this is living wood, not a manufactured surface. Because the figure is born from the tree itself, no two handles will ever share the same pattern.
Each scale is hand-selected, shaped, and fitted at the Laguiole en Aubrac workshop, then set with stainless steel pins forming the traditional shepherd’s cross. Paired with mirror-polished bolsters and the gleaming, intricately filed double plates, the muted tones of the burl create a striking contrast between cool steel and quiet, organic depth.
The result is an understated yet richly textured handle, made for those drawn to natural character with a refined, contemporary edge.
