The Droit Silhouette

The name “Droit” — French for straight — comes directly from the knife’s profile: the blade and handle run along one continuous line, without the curve found on the Layole. Two distinguishing touches round out the design: a subtle “corbin beak” tail at the base of the handle, and a “Bourbonnaise” blade with a rounded tip where its straight spine and edge taper together to a point.

The Laguiole Droit uses the traditional back-spring mechanism (slip joint) that has defined the Laguiole since the 19th century. There is no lock: a forged steel spring presses against the blade’s heel, holding it firmly open or closed with the knife’s signature snap. To close it, hold the handle in one hand and fold the blade with the other, keeping your fingers clear of the edge. At the head of the spring sits the hand-chased forged bee, the emblem of Laguiole en Aubrac craftsmanship and a natural thumb rest when cutting.
